The difference between active RFID and passive RFID

The difference between active RFID and passive RFID

Summary

Active RFID is a category of electronic tags defined by the different power supply modes of electronic tags, usually supporting long-distance identification. Passive RFID uses carrier operating mode and has anti-interference ability. Users can customize the reading and writing of standard data. Electronic tags can be divided into active electronic tags, passive electronic tags, and semi passive electronic tags.

The difference between active RFID and passive RFID

1 Conceptual differences

1. Active RFID, also known as active RFID, is a category of electronic tags defined by the different power supply modes of electronic tags, usually supporting long-distance identification. Electronic tags can be divided into active electronic tags, passive electronic tags, and semi passive electronic tags.

2. Passive RFID, also known as passive RF tags, uses carrier operating mode and has anti-interference ability. Users can customize the reading and writing of standard data, which is very convenient in specialized application platforms, with a reading distance of over 10 meters.

2 Different working principles

1. Active electronic tag RFID refers to the energy provided by the battery for the tag to work. The battery, memory, and antenna together form an active electronic tag RFID, which is different from the activation method of passive RF and continuously sends information through a set frequency band before battery replacement. To ensure recognition reliability and battery economy, the transmission interval is generally 400 milliseconds to 800 milliseconds.

2. The performance of passive RFID tags is greatly affected by tag size, modulation form, circuit Q value, device power consumption, and modulation depth. The passive RF tag has a memory capacity of 1024 bits and an ultra wide operating frequency band, which not only complies with relevant industry regulations but also allows for flexible development and application. It can read and write multiple tags simultaneously. Passive RF tag design, no battery required, memory can be repeatedly erased more than 100000 times.

3 The battery principle is different

1. Active RFID tags are powered by built-in batteries, and different tags use different numbers and shapes of batteries.

2. The passive RFID tag does not contain a battery, and its electrical energy is obtained from the RFID reader. When the passive RFID tag approaches the RFID reader, the antenna of the passive RFID tag converts the received electromagnetic wave energy into electrical energy, activates the chip in the RFID tag, and sends out the data from the RFID chip.

4 Price and lifespan differ

1. Passive RFID: Compared to active RFID, it is relatively cheaper and has a relatively long lifespan (theoretical 10 years).

2. Active RFID: It is expensive and has a relatively short battery life (1-3 years).

 5 Different application scenarios

1. Active: Active RFID has the characteristics of strong signal and wide coverage, and is generally used in warehouse management, vehicle management, shopping mall management, campus management, traffic management, and other aspects.

2. Passive: Passive RFID technology is mainly used to track or monitor the shipment volume of pallets, packaging boxes, and goods entering and exiting the warehouse. Commonly used in aviation, logistics, warehousing, retail, clothing, medical and other fields.
